SHIMOGA- KARNATAKA DISTRICT-Badravathi – Ikkeri-Sagar-Jog falls

SHIMOGA is a district of Karnataka covers an area of 8000 sq . km . it has a population of 14, 52 ,000 . it is situated at  the banks of river Tungabadra. This place is  very famous during Keladi Nayakas days. Shimoga has a very attractive landscape, and having historic monuments.

BADRAVATHI

It is about 250 km from bangalore, it is a industrial town known as ‘Benkipura’.here you can see an ancient temple dedicated to lord Lashiminarayana. This temple have rich architectural workmanship was constructed by Hoysalas . The beautiful river Bhadra flows through this city.

IKKERI

It is about 245 km away from Bangalore. Aghoreswara Temple situated here . Two more ancient temples known as Rameswara and Veerabadra temples also seen here.

SAGAR

It is about 300 km from Mysore. The sandalwood and ivory industries which produce fascinating articles earn fame to this city. Purchases will also be made here

JOG FALLS

This enthralling water falls at an altitude of 1500ft above sea level. The reverberating waters of the beautiful river Sharavathi which takes it birth at Ambuthirtha thunder down giving rise to this vociferous waterfalls, at a height of 250 m .Jog falls situated about 80 km from Shimoga and 370 km from Bangalore. Food and accommodation provided by the tourism department.

CHIKMAGALUR is a district in Karnataka with number of mountains , occupies an area of 7000 sq km. with a population of 1017000 by the census done by India government. It is about 250 km from Bangalore , and have picturesque hill namely Bababudan Hills. This place is about 1800 m above sea level. The main agriculture product is Coffee. This beautiful mountains brandishes some enthralling waterfalls.

Chikmagalur is also hold number of pilgrim spots. The famous Trikuta temple is situated in Belvadi in this district. The temple built in Hoysala architecture .

BELAVADI

It is abut 30 km form chikamagalur city. The famous temple Trikuta is located here. The temple is on the name of lord Veeranarayana. During Mahabharatha days Belavadi is known by the name Ekachakranagara.

AMRITESWARA TEMPLE

The temple is about 240 km from Bangalore., and it was built in 12 th century. The temple reflects Hoysalas architecture style. it is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi , the goddess of arts and learning.

SRINGERI

This sacred place is located on the bank of holy river ‘Tungabadra’is famous for a ‘Mutt’.The mutt is known as the ‘sringeri Saradha peetam’.here you can see a temple dedicated to goddess Saradha(saraswathi).

KALAHASTHI WATERFALLS

This enchanting waterfalls is located about 50 km from chikamagalur. After traveling 8 km from this  waterfalls you can see Hebbe falls(an another waterfalls).

BHADRA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

It is about 70 km from Chikamagalur. It covers an area of 490 sq km. this sanctuary holds a wide variety of fascinating flora and fauna.chikama temp

This district as its name ‘Dakshina’ which means south , and it lies in the southern part of the state. It spreads an area of 4845 sq km. it has a population of about 1633000 . peoples here are spoken ‘tulu’ language. It is also known as ‘land of tuluvas’.

MANGALORE

It is the headquarters of the district Dakhina Kannada, this city is located at the confluence of the beautiful rivers Nettavati and Gurupur. This wonderful palm fringed coast town is accessible from Coorg city by a road squired by bewitching sceneries. Mangalore resembles with the coastal towns of kerala and experience a typical coastal climate. Mangalore is a place where religious harmony is overt, with a number of churches, temples and mosque.

MANGALADEVI TEMPLE

it is situated about 3 km from mangalore. Here you can see a temple dedicated to goddess Mangaladevi. The temple built in 10 th century.

KARKALA

It is about 50 km from mangalore. It is a place which is a sacred worship centre of the Jains was the seat of the Bhairasas , the famous jain dynasty . here you can see two large statues of ‘sri gomateswara’ having a height of 13 m. about 30 km from karkal another important place ‘Sivarakamabada Basti’ where the biggest Jain Shrine in Karnataka located. The unique feature of this shrine is metallic images .At Vinur an ancient temple dedicated to lord siva can see.

UDUPI is located 60 km away from Mangalore, it is situated on a national highway so we can  easy accessed by roads.. This sacred  place where the ancient temple dedicated to lord sri Gopalakrishna stands. A famous festival Biennial is held in the month of January. There are also some famous temples, like Ambalapadi Shakthi temple. Kadiyali Durga Temple. Holy Mutt of Sri Raghavendra. Venkateswara temple etc.Udupi holds a beach namely ‘Malpe’ near to Manipal . Manipal university is very much famous in the educational field. The cuisines of udupi the beautiful coastal town are well known.

KOLLUR

It is about 140 km from Manglaore. This place is famous for a temple dedicated to Goddess Mookambika, the goddess of arts and learning. This hilly region characterized by high greenery . A beautiful temple is located on the scenic hill named Kodachadri. Hundreds of devotees come here and worship the goddess.

AGUMBE

It is about 50 km from udupi. This is a very good place for watching sunset and sun rise. From here you can see the rare visual red sun.

DHARMASTHALA

It is about 75 km from Mangalore. This is a beautiful island formed by river Netravathi, the famous Manjunatha temple is located here. A huge statue constructed in a single stone , measuring a height of 14 m is seen here.

It is located at 100 km from Bangalore , it is the headquarters of the city “mandya district” and it covers and area of 4960 sq . km. it has a population of 1644000 by the survey of India government.

The district has a number of monuments in the form of churches , temples, historic palaces etc. Major tourist attractions are described below.

SRIRANGAPATNAM

This beautiful place is a placid island formed by the division of the famous river Cauvery, which flows around this place. This is now known as a pilgrimage center , due to a temple dedicated to Lord Sri Ranganatha, a variation of lord Vishnu.

Sri Rangapatna was the capital of ancient rulers of Mysore. The ruins of an ancient fort can be seen here. It was constructed by Hebba Timmana in 1510.

Dariya Daulat Baghicha

This is a beautiful garden of the Persian style lain in 1780 surrounded by river Cauvery. Here you can see a palace with beautiful carvings on teak wood. This place used by Tipu sultan as a rest house. The walls schematize events of war. The museum in the palace displays number of Tipu’s belongings.

RANGANATHITTU BIRD SANCTUARY

It is about 3 km from Srirangapatnam at an altitude of 750 m above sea level. It is an island in the middle of river Cauvery. Boat rides are available around the sanctuary. Number of migratory and nonmigratory birds are seen here.

It is about 25 km from Mandya, it holds a famous temple dedicated to lord Mallikarjuna. The temple reflects the intricate carvings and stupendous sculpture of the rich Hoysala style of architecture. It was constructed by Harihara Dhandanayaka .

MADDUR

The name maddur now known as the “taluk headquarters”was Arjunapuri Agraha. This name takes us back to puranic(ancient) years .The presiding deity of he entire village is goddess Maduramma , due to this the name Maddur has been given to the village.

VARADARAJA TEMPLE

Here a temple dedicated to lord varadaraja, another form of lord Vishnu. The temple is constructed in grand chola style of architecture. It have intiricate carvings, splendid sculpture, beautiful paintings on the walls and pillars.

ADICHUNCHANAGIRI

It is about 60 km from Mandya town, the sacred place dedicated to Lord Bhairava. The ‘swamiji’ of vokkaliga community is seated here. A beautiful sanctuary is located near to this place where you can see the fascinating birds ‘peacock’.

NARASIMHASWAMY TEMPLE

It is dedicated to Lord Narasimha , another variation of lord Vishnu. It is a masterpiece work of Hoysala rulers.

MELUKOTE

It is an ancient temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. Here also have a ‘sanskrit academy’ ,which has a collection of palm leaf manuscripts.

SIVASAMUDRAM

This is a hills isle formed by wonderful branches of river Cauvery. Here you can see   two gurgling waterfalls . This region is also provide an ecosystem for wild animals.
