madikeri is the district capital of coorg. it is also known by the name mercara. the former name of madikeri is muddu raja keri. the history of mercara is close with the history of coorg. madikeri is at an elevation of 1452 meters above sea level. mangalore and mysore are near to coorg city. it is a well known hill station , a part of western ghats. the mean temperature here is 11 degree c.  during summer season temperature raise to 28 degree c.  the main languages here are kannada, kodava, bhase , english etc. the main festivals in kodagu are kaveri sankarmana, puttari, kalipodhu, dasara etc. one of the main attraction in madikeri is raja seat, it is a square mandapa with beautiful surroundings. another attraction is madikeri fort . it was built by mudduraja in 17 th centuary.

kodagu is a district of karnataka in south india. it is also known by the name coorg. it covers about 4100 square kilometers. according to the census done by india government in 2001, coorg has a population of 548560 . the capital of kodagu located at madikeri. the bordered districts are hassn district, dakshina kannnada, mysore district, kannur district, wayanadu district etc.
