Threats to alappuzha backwaters

Published by admin under Alappuzha

The African moss that are seen on the  top  of the freshwaters may look more beautiful, but it really cause water pollution. It is also implies a severe trouble , that is an ecology related  problems, now a days  affecting the region whose density of population  ranges from between three and four times that of different coastal places  in south India. This has put high force on land and hence a high  reliance of fertilizers which even really  work their way into the water resulting the built up of moss. Illegal land use results  greatest threat to this beautiful ecosystem. the overall water mass  in kuttanad has been decreases by two thirds in last one century,  mangrove swamps and fresh water fishes have been reduced  by pollution and the spread of cities and villages at the sides  of  backwater’s in alappuzha .
