kumili

It isabout 4 km from thekkady . kumili is know as a plantation town. This city is one of the shopping centers in idukki. frequent bus services from kumili to periyar wild life sanctuary.

Pandikuzhi

This place is about 10 km from thekkady . this place have beautiful flowers and lot of animals. This is the boarder of kerala and tamilnadu.

Vandiperiyar

The place is well knwn for plantations .it is located about 18 km from thekkady.. the periyar river nourishes this area .number of tea factories are seen here.

Murikkady

It is about 5 km from thekkady.the place is best known for coffee plantations.

Vandenmedu

The vandenmedu popular by cardamom traders an auction centre.

Pallimedu

Pallimedu is about 40 km from thekkady. This is a hilly region covered by green plantations. From here you can see the Ayyappa temple at sabarimala. The visitors must obtained the permission from wildlife preservation officer thekkady.

Peerumade

Peerumade is a hilly region is on the way to thekkady.the place is at an altitude of 900 metres. The main plantations here are rubber, tea, coffee etc.

Kuttikkanam

Kuttikkanam is an idle place for trekkers .the greenery covers acres of land and picturesque hills are so beautiful.

Peeru hills

Peeru hills is very near to kuttikkanam.the place is named in memory of Islamic saint peer mohammed.

Thrissanku hills

It is located about 4 km away from peermade.this is an  idle spot to watch sunrise and sunset.thrisanku hills are covered by greenery and a gentle breeze flow all time.

Sahyadri ayurvedic centre

The ayurvedi centre offers ayurvedic treatment packages . the centre holds a herb museum, about 200 varieties of rare herbs are seen here. Medicinal plants are protected in 35 acres of land.

Grampi

The place is also known by name parunthupara . the word meaning is ‘eagle rock’. It is about 5 km from peerumade. the main plantations here are tea, coffee,and cardamom.

Mangala devi temple

The temple is located at kumili. It is about 1300  m above sea level. The temple constructed in traditional style. it reflects kerala style architecture.

Idukki district covered by kottayam , pathanmthtta districts on the south , thrissur and coimbatore district on he north , madurai , ramnad and tirunelveli district on he east and ernakulam is on the west.

The name idukki derived from ‘idukk’ which means ‘in the middle of’. Idukki the district with marvels beauty. Thick forest occupied by variety of flora and fauna are of bewitching beauty. The periyar wild life sanctuary covers the vast area  .the sanctuary have number of wildlife species including the ‘national animal’. Variety of reptile species and fascinating birds are also seen . the national bird peacock is so beautiful. A rare species of mountain goats are seen in Eravi kulam . here you can see summer resorts and cascades and water falls adding glitz to the glamour. Anamali the highest south indian peak is located here.

The nearest international airport is at nedumabasseri about 108 km away.and the railway station near is kottayam railway station about 132 km away.

Idukki arch dam

Idukki arch dam built  across the periyar river. The dam constructed by utilizing the kuravan and kurathi hills .this huge dam have a height of 550 ft and 650 ft wide .idukki arch dam is the first arch dam in Asia. It is the second largest arch dam among the whole world. The dam covers an area of 78 sq km . the dam located at an altitude of 450 to 750 m  above sea level. Periyar wild life sanctuary is at the banks of idukki arch dam. The dam is built for meeting the power supply requirement of kerala. The dam have a capacity to generate 780 MW.the dam have a capacity to store 2000 M cum. The tail water from the dam flows through kudaithourpuzha through tunnel .cheruthuruthi and kulamav are two other dams these are parts of idukki arch dam. Sri john malankar submit the first report to the government after studying the possibility of a dam between the kuravan and kurathi hills.Preliminary  investigation report made by john joseph the chief electrical engineer .according to planning commission project report the construction started in 1963 .
