Mannarasala Ayilyam festival

Mannarasala is a Nagaraja temeple located at Mannarasala, the mannarasala ayilyam festival on 20 , 21 and 22 nd of October 2011. the most celebrated festival in mannarasala temple is Ayilyam festival in Thulam . the presiding deity at mannarasala temple is Nagaraja. It is believed that nagaraja is a form of Vishnu and spirit of siva.  The holly procession here is known as Ayilyam Ezhunnullathu .

Close observation for migratory birds

In 2006 a global initiative implemented to conserve the migratory birds population . Various educational programs , bird festivals , bird watching etc  are  organized all over the world during the weekend of May .  The theme of world migratory bird day in this year is raising awareness about importance of migratory birds and their conservation. According to the WWF study, the migratory birds in kerala are facing  high risk.  The migratory birds are shifting their usual  destinations , due to lack of food and shelter.  The recent studies reveals that , the birds that are visiting kerala are growing in dry habitats , this indicating a change in climate in kerala

A new project HARITHA KERALAM for Green kerala

The third phase of haritha keralam project will be launched  by forest department on june 5 . The project is under the control of Social forest wing , department of kerala forest.  The project will be commission  on the same day of world environment day , june 5 . the third phase of haritha keralam will be implemented with the help of  students, local governments, religious institutions, and youth organizations.  The project aims to plant about 60 lakh of plants all over kerala.  The project will use , unutilized lands, road sides , institutional properties, private properties, railways lands, residential areas for planting trees.  Haritha keralam project will promote ‘ ente maram’ and ‘nammudae maram’ projects in schools and colleges.  Haritha keralam project started in 2009 , planted more than one crore saplings all over kerala.

Sabarimala temple opens

The world famous ayyappa temple at sabarimala opens for its monthly rituals.  The five day ritual starts on 15 th may , Sunday. Usually , these rituals are held in Edavom, Malayalam month. Ezhikokde sasi namboothri , the head priest opened the temple on Saturday , may 14.  Thousands of Ayyappa followers waiting for their Darshan.  Kandararu Rajeevaru , the chief priest in sabarimala , will begin the Edavom ritual by doing  Ganapathi homom. The regula puja’s such as padipuja,  sahashabhishekam, udayasthamaya puja, pushpabhishekam etc. A special puja, Laksharchana will do on may 16 and 18.

Wildlife survey will begins from may 18 in kerala

The preparations for kerala wild life survey completed.  The survey covers periyar tiger reserve and idukki wildlife sanctuary. The similar survey was conducted in 2002 . The block level census would be held on may 18 . and in the following days , transect surveys would be done. Kerala have 1200 blocks of forest area. Out of 1200, 630 blocks are selected for survey.  On the first day , all animals in the forest would be noted.
