Parumala church – a piligrimage in kerala

Parumala church is one of the major pilgrim spot for Christian belongs to orthodox category.  The pilgrimage centre parumala is located in pathanamthitta district in kerala.  The church is about 10 km away from Thiruvalla town.

The annual festival in this church is known as Ormaperunnal which means ‘commemoration day’ . it is a festival of  commemoration of “ Mar Gregorios  Metropolitan” . it is celebrated in November 1 & 2  every year.

Geographically parumala is a small island in pampa river.  Parumala thirumeni (saint gregorios ) was the first declared saint of malankara orthodox.  He was passed away on November 1902.

Sabarimala temple opens

Ayyappan

The world famous ayyappa temple at sabarimala opens for its monthly rituals.  The five day ritual starts on 15 th may , Sunday. Usually , these rituals are held in Edavom, Malayalam month. Ezhikokde sasi namboothri , the head priest opened the temple on Saturday , may 14.  Thousands of Ayyappa followers waiting for their Darshan.  Kandararu Rajeevaru , the chief priest in sabarimala , will begin the Edavom ritual by doing  Ganapathi homom. The regula puja’s such as padipuja,  sahashabhishekam, udayasthamaya puja, pushpabhishekam etc. A special puja, Laksharchana will do on may 16 and 18.

Omalloor temple festival begins

Omalloor temple located in pathanamthitta district of kerala.   The temple is dedicated to Sree Raktakanta swami . The kodiyettum ceremony of annual festival on may 13 , Friday . The temple rituals starts with Ganapathi homom. The Arat procession , will take place  all ten days , during the festival. About 30 elephants will participate in Arat procession.  The festival ends on may 22 .

Gavi

Gavi , a beautiful place is kerala  best known for ecotourism.  It is located in pathanamthitta , a district of kerala.  The prime attractions in gavi are  ponds and pamba biological garden, moozhiayar and seethathodu dams . the facilities are provided by kerala forest department . As said early , gavi has  dense forest with rich flora and fauna.  Another attractions are boating , trekking , night safaris etc.

How to reach Gavi ?

Gavi  is located about 100 km away from pathanamthitta town.  Bus services are available frequently.  Tivandrom internation airport is about 250 km and kochi international airport is about 200 km away.

NEW SAFARY BUSES FOR VISITORS IN GAVI

Wild life safari buses introduced for visitors to  Gavi in pathanamthitta district. . This is to reduce the number of private vehicles in this route.  Angamuzhi and Vallakadavu route passes through the periyar tiger reserve, which is a core tiger habitat The number of tourists to Gavi reduced to 100 each from both route.

The open buses provides a panoramic view of forest environment to the visitors.  Jeeps will also introduced in this route for trekking purposes.  The vehicle management is done by Eco development committee of the area. The jeep service mainly concentrated in Ranni – Gavi route.
