Sreepadmanabha swamy temple

It is one of the ancient temples in India, located at trivandrom in kerala. The temple is at the heart of trivandrom city. It is believed that the temple was built in kaliyuga era.. As the name indicates , the presiding deity here is lord sree padmanabha. The pecularity of this temple is that , here bhagavan Vishnu reclining on a snake namely  Ananthan . The idol here is huge, so that , darsahan can be had through three openings (doors). The face  darshan will get through south door, feet through north door and the navel through middle door.

Festivals

Mainly  two annual festivals . only hindus  are permitted inside the temple.  In the case of men , wearing of shirt is not allowed inside the temple. Inside the temple men should wear mundu (pants are not allowed) , and women should wear sarees and blouse.

Hidden treasure in Sree padamanabha swamy temple

Hidden treasure ( in Malayalam NIDHI) in sree padmanabhaswamy temple , includes gold ornaments, precious stones , diamonds, golden vessels, golden bow, golden crown, . all these treasure will cost  Rs 2 lakh crore . A seven member committee appointed by the honorable supreme court taking a list of assets in the temple .

Attukal bhagavathi temple- Sabarimala of women’s

Attukal bhagvathi temple is one of the ancient temple located at Trivandrom in kerala .  The temple is popularly known as “WOMEN’S  SABARIMALA” .  The goddess Attukalamma worshipping her devotees as a supreme mother ( mother of all living beings).

From the mythology it is believed that Attukala bhagavathi is a divinized form of Kannaki . The story says that due to the destruction of madurai temple , the goddess left the city , and arrived kerala on the way she took a sojourn at ATTUKAL . According to history  kannaki is an incarnation of  goddess parvathi. ,  the wife of Paramasiva.

The annual festival here is Attukal ponkala. Ponkala mahotsava is a popular practice in southern part of India. . Ponkala mahotsavom last for ten days.

The first  attraction in attukal temple is attukal bhagavathi , after that our eyes goes through the sculptures of the temple.  The temple structure is a blended architecture of both kerala and tamilnadu.  The stories , depicted on the either sides of the front gopura, gives  life history of goddess kannaki.  The sculpturing on the southern gopura depicting puranic Dakshayaga  story.

Tow idols  are in sanctum sanctorum . The original idol is made beautiful by ornaments. Also the temple have idols of lord ganapathi, lord siva etc.

Attukal is located about 2 km away from Trivandrom , state capital.

Veli Lagoon- Akkulam lake

Veli lagoon is a beautiful park located at Akkulam lake in trivnadrom district.  It is one of the famous backwater in kerala . Kerala “ the god’s own country“  is very much popular for its backwaters.  Akkulam lake is touch with Arabian sea, only a sand bar separation between akkulam lake and Arabian sea.

Boating facilities are available at akkulam lake, different types of boats such as power boats, pedal boats, normal row boats etc are available according to the users wish.

Another attraction in this park are , wade pools, fish ponds, and beautiful gardens.  It is one of the biggest children park in kerala. It offers  different rides  and musical fountain shows.  If you are interested in bird watching , you will get an opportunity from here.  The deer park associated with this attracts thousands of tourists to the heart of trivandrom.

Ponmudi

Ponmudi is about 55 km from thiruvanthapuram city. Ponmudi is a hilly region about 920 m above sea level. The roads are very narrow . so the driving to ponmudi is so difficult. The nature provide a cool , greenish atmosphere. Beautiful butterflies are flying here and there. A deer park is associated with Ponmudi. The place is idle for trekking .

Peppara wild life sanctuary

The peppara sanctuary spreads an area of 54 sq km. it is about 50 km from thriruvanthapuram city. The sanctuary is located on the way to ponmudi. So you can visit pepper sanctuary on the way to ponmudi.

Somatheeram

Somatheeram is about 20 km away from thriruvanthapuram. The place is best known for Ayurvedic treatments. It is located near to Kovalam beach.

Padmanabhapuram palace

Padmanabhapuram palace is about 60 km away from thiruvanthapuam. The palace is on the way to Kanyakumari. The palace is made up of Teak wood. Beautiful carvings, extraordinary murals are seen in this palace.

Agasthyakoodam

Agasthyakoodam is a part of Sahyadri mountains range, which is the second largest peak in kerala, about 1892 m above sea level. The hill region occupy dense forest and rich wild life. Abundant medicinal plants are seen here.
