The sivagiri mutt is dedicated to a former social worker , sree narayana guru, in kerala. he fought against the difference in caste among hindus. Sivagiri mutt is a famous pilgrim centre for hindus. Number of pilgrims are visits sivagiri during guru jayanthi(birthday of sree narayana guru) and guru samathi (death day). Sree narayana guru believed in ‘one religion ,one god’. The sivagiri theerthadanam starts on January 2. the mutt is situated at varkala ,about 40 km north of trivandrom.

The janardhana swamy temple is 2000 years old. The temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu. It is believed that the original temple was destroyed by tidal waves the present temple was constructed by pandyan king. The mythology says that , the location for this temple was informed to the king , in his dream. Non hindus are not allowed to enter into the temple. The famous festival here is vavu bali. The main pilgrim season starts form December . thousands of pilgrims are coming every year.
